Welcome Message from the Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians and Families,
As I begin my first school year as Principal of the Abigail Adams School, I feel blessed to have been a part of the PS 131 family for 18 years now. Under the profound tutelage of Principal Ford I‘ve excelled from a student teacher, to teacher, to literacy coach, to assistant principal. I grew up in Queens, NY and I am a product of the New York City Public School System. Currently, I live on Long Island with my husband and two children, Mikayla and Michael.
I am deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of your children.
We will accomplish this by setting high academic expectations for all children and providing supportive systems to assure they are met. By addressing school culture, setting high standards for teacher performance, increased academic expectations for all students and engaging the community, it is our goal at the Abigail Adams School that all graduates are college and career ready.
One of our school goals this year is to increase our reading scores. Every classroom will have a 2-hour and 20 minute uninterrupted literacy block. We’ve also adopted a new literacy program, Wonders Reading. We are excited to share the program outline and expectations with you during our Back to School Night on September 17th. I’m inviting parents to meet me in my new role on the evening of September 17th. Specific dates and times will be sent out in the near future.
Another goal is to enhance our Bucket Filling Initiative. Students will be able to earn Abigail Adams Bucks from any member in our school community to shop at the Abigail Adams School Store. We hope this continues to support the safe and nurturing environment we have here at PS 131.
It takes the entire school community to achieve our goals. If you ever have a concern or question please does not hesitate to call or email me. Communication is paramount in a school. For this reason, I will always encourage you to contact your child’s teacher, the parent coordinator or any member of the administrative team with questions. I feel very lucky to be following Mr. Ford as the principal of the Abigail Adams School. He took a lot of pride in everything he did here. I will be in touch with Mr. Ford often so that we can make this a very smooth transition for students, teachers and families. PS 131 has always been a school that has many things to be proud of. I strive to build on that greatness. I thank you in advance for welcoming me as a part of this great community!
