Dear Families,

 

I want to take this opportunity to wish all our Abigail Adams families a happy and healthy new year.  I hope your holiday was relaxing and filled with memories to cherish with family and friends.  Our students have transitioned back into their academic routines.  As always, please be sure to contact your child’s teacher should you have any questions about their progress.  Tuesday afternoons between 2:20 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. teachers are available for meetings, phone conferences and email communication.

 

Additionally, it’s important for students to arrive to school on time.  The homeroom period provides students with a smooth transition to a day of learning.  At this time, the students recite the Pledge of Allegiance, sing the school song, review the day’s schedule in the classroom, listen to school announcements and distribute notes and materials from home to their teachers.  To provide your children with a positive start to the day, please plan your morning so your child arrives in school no later than 8:00 a.m. In addition to morning routines, we ask our families to continue to be mindful of early dismissal habits as well.  Although there are times when an occasional early dismissal is necessary, they should be minimal as this loss of instructional time can certainly affect a student’s performance.

 

Parents are asked to listen carefully to the news on the television or radio for the latest information regarding school closings or delays.  The NYC Department of Education lets you sign up for emails that will notify you of important school news, including snow closures.  You can follow the DOE on Facebook and Twitter, and visit the DOE website (schools.nyc.gov) for the latest weather-related scheduling changes.  Another option is to sign up for school alerts at Notify NYC or call 311.

 

One last piece of information is a shout-out to the families of P.S. 131!  We collected over 10 boxes of canned food for families in need.  Thank you for all you do for your children and the community!
