The end of the year is almost around the corner. It does not seem possible that another year has come and almost gone. I do hope your child has not only enjoyed the year, but has grown in many areas.
I would like to draw attention to the new banner hung in the school lobby. As a school community we took on many instructional components, special events, and initiatives to engage the entire school community in acceptance of diversity and prevention of harassment and bullying behavior. Some of those instructional components, special events, and initiatives include being a Bucket Filler, Student of the Month Award, and Book of the Month. Based on all of this, we have been recognized by the Office of Safety and Youth Development as a Respect For All School! I am proud to announce that P.S. 131 is a “Respect For All Winning School” for 2016.
Reflecting on this year, it has been an exciting one for all of us. Together we learned much and shared experiences that will long remain with us in the years to come. The strength of our community and passion to make our school a wonderful place of learning not only for our children, but for us as well, has made P.S. 131 a special place. Special thanks to all of you who contributed in many ways: volunteering in the classrooms, chaperoning field trips, organizing events, attending events to support the children, serving on committees, sharing your talents, supporting our work in countless ways, and providing the resources to do what we know is best for children! Thank you for getting your children to school on time each day, for sending your children with healthy lunches and snacks, for making sure homework gets completed… and turned in. Thank you for providing rich, engaging, and well-rounded experiences for your children and for knowing that education is about joy, wonder, and fostering curiosity, along with the development of the social skills so needed to succeed. For these, and a million other things, we are truly grateful! I am truly happy and excited for the kindergarten students who will enter our school in September!
Lastly, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the principal of the Abigail Adams School. If my staff or I can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to assist you and your child.
