Principal’s Newsletter – November 2015

Dear Families,

I hope this letter finds you well. As we enter the month of November, there are many things to be thankful for here in P.S. 131Q. I would like to take the time to express my thanks to our faculty and staff, our PTA and to all the good families of P.S. 131 for all that you do on behalf of our students and our school.

As a way of helping families truly appreciate the American holiday of Thanksgiving, I would like to introduce our “no homework policy” for the Thanksgiving break. Teachers have been asked to refrain from giving homework assignments or projects to complete starting on November 25, 2015. All regular homework and other assignments will resume upon our return to school on November 30, 2015. While no formal assignments will be given, it is our hope that our students and their families will spend time together doing things they enjoy. Read together, visit a museum, watch a movie, play a board game, get outside and explore! No matter what you do, enjoy your time together without having to ask the question, “What do you have for homework?”

The first marking period came to a close on Wednesday, October 30th. Student report cards will be distributed on Wednesday, November 4th and Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, November 5th. We look forward to seeing all parents and guardians on this important conference day.

To continue to promote literacy, we’ve opened the school library to parents and students on Tuesday afternoons between the hours of 2:30 – 3:30 PM. Mrs. Isaacs will open the library doors to give parents an opportunity to book shop and read with their child.

As you know, my door is always open. Please feel free to contact me at 718-480-2840 or via email,, if you should have a question, comment or concern.

Warmest Regards,

Veronica DePaolo
Principal, I.A.
